This American Life

mood: contemplative contemplative

Lately, I had been thinking about the subject of people being influenced by drugs in public and in the work place.  Just by coincidence This American Life broadcast an episode exploring that very subject! I Was So High starts off with Ira Glass commenting that some people don't even notice when those around them are high. "...If you are not a daily drug user, or not a big drug user, it doesn't occur to you that other people around you might be high." I feel that I am fully in this camp. I am mostly an observant person, but when it comes to the moods and internal perception of other people, I am normally clueless. Perhaps part of me just doesn't want to know.
Since Washington now has legalized marijuana it has been a out-of-the-closet topic of debate. Now, that it is legal by state standards, there is a lot more public debate and considerations. I applaud the debate, education and transparency of any subject; knowledge is power. But most of the time I just run through mental hypothetical situations.I thought this was a subject that is extremely personal: the choice to use drugs by an individual. But that choice can have more lasting effects on the surrounding individuals then the user themselves. It is a subject that I mull over every once in awhile.

Continuing DIY Blog

mood: sick sick

I've been still working on my Do it Yourself From Scratch Blog. I have been attempting to post weekly but it has been recently bi-weekly. I most recently wrote about the self watering containers that I made with Robert and Brian. Funny thing is we made them about a month an a half ago. I have just been procrastinating writing the entree. I try to put a good amount of effort into any posts I make there.
Now that I am back from vacation and summer is coming up quickly I am hoping I will be able to get back into my weekly posting again.

I'm now old

I re-earthed my Live Journal blog to see what I could uncover of my former self. I've always wondered why teenagers have the need to plaster their feelings and intimate thoughts across the internet, especially Facebook. Now reading back entrees from my former self, I can see a bit of their viewpoint.
Some just need to share ideas and feelings with others to feel connected. I supose now that means that I don't have that feeling anymore.

New adventures in writing

I have started a new blog to try to get my creative writing up to snuff. I have ignored it for many years, but my family still insists that I am good at it. It would be enjoyable to read and write the rest of my days so I figured I should start somewhere.
My new blog is based on my online character in the game EVE online, a space simulation. I enjoy this game primarily because I do not get motion sickness playing it and secondary it is a way to have some quality time with Brian. I am trying out this new blog site, WordPress.com. It seems to have more up to date internet capabilities without paying for it. It looks pretty sleek too.
I hope you enjoy my new writings.

Computer Juggling Often Ends in Dropping Things

Mar. 10th, 2010 | 09:03 pm
mood: optimistic optimistic

Because of the death of my long time Dell laptop; the slow decay of the shared widescreen HP laptop; and the random re-profiling incident on the Dell desktop, I had neglected my LJ account. Not that it was all the computers' faults. I know I would have the tenancy to blame inanimate objects for my own laziness, but it is difficult to concentrate when icons are in the wrong locations. Things have been busy at our place and work. The need to journal is small and often pushed to the side.
In a recent effort to recharge my writing and maybe consider actually finishing stories, I will put more effort into writing in general. This will of course include: LJ and my own personal journal. This is also encouraged by Brian's recent love of computer programing. We will have to see how long this lasts.

I worked pretty hard on these two biscornu. Found the patterns at The Floss Box. I made the blue one for my sister and the red for my mom. I like the poppy buttons I found at Joanne's.
